Vanessa Coelho-Santos, was invited to speak at the prestigious XX Christmas Meeting in Alicante https://in.umh-csic.es/en/20th-christmas-meeting/. This event, renowned for bringing together leading young researchers from across the globe, took place on December 20 and 21 at the Santiago Ramón y Cajal building, part of the Institute for Neurosciences.
Vanessa joined a distinguished group of scientists to discuss the latest advancements and breakthroughs in neuroscience. The meeting provided a platform for vibrant discussions, collaboration, and the exchange of innovative ideas among the next generation of neuroscientists.
Her participation not only highlights the importance of our ongoing research but also underscores the recognition of her contributions to the field.
In March of this year, Cátia Lourenço Marques, Joao Laranjinha, and I had the honor of organizing the very first Neurovascular Course as part of the Doctoral Program in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine (PDBEB). This exciting event brought together a fantastic lineup of speakers and hands-on experiments, both in-person and online, to explore the world of neurovascular biology. But we're also certain that everyone enjoyed the pizza picnic!
Our keynote seminar, led by the esteemed Anusha Mishra from OSHU, was a highlight of the course. Anusha's insights into the workings of the neurovascular unit, from its anatomy to its role in neurological disorders, were truly enlightening.
The main goals of the course were: to help everyone understand the neurovascular unit and its importance in the body, and to introduce the latest research on imaging methods, biomarkers, and treatments for neurodevelopmental and neurological conditions.
While this was our first Neurovascular Course, we're optimistic that it's just the beginning. We want to thank all our wonderful speakers and enthusiastic students whose participation made the event such a success. Here's to many more courses like this in the future!
We are thrilled to announce the presence of the VCS lab at the 8th Symposium of the Portuguese Glial Network, held on April 5, 2024, in Braga. Magda Rodrigues presented our first-ever poster featuring data from the lab. Since joining us in November, Magda has done a fantastic job, and we could not be prouder. A big round of applause to us for this achievement!
On June 26, Mariana and Margarida presented their Bachelor projects and received donuts as a reward.
About their projects:
Margarida Domingues - Impact of Prenatal Stress on the Blood-Brain Barrier: Alterations in Claudin-5 Expression and Albumin Leakage
Mariana Kuzmina Prokopets - Hemodynamic Response in the Neonatal Brain
It was a pleasure to have you in my lab! I wish you all the best for your future.
